The annual 50 Cent Tycoon Weekend returns to Houston next month with a few new items. This time around, 50 will coach an All-Star Celebrity Basketball game during the event for a competitive rivalry against Fat Joe’s team.
Taking to his Instagram account on Wednesday (July 20), Fif announced the event by posting the flyer for the inaugural hoops showdown. Both teams will be coached by the G-Unit boss and Terror Squad leader.
“It’s going to be so exciting,” he wrote in his caption. “HOUSTON TYCOON weekend. @fatjoe can’t wait to see who I have on my team. LOL @[email protected]”
Fat Joe and 50 Cent are no strangers to rivalry, on and off the court. The two New York rappers had a bit of “beef” in the 2000s after Joe was featured on Ja Rule’s single “New York” with Jadakiss. 50, who has been feuding with Rule for years, didn’t like the collaboration. After almost 10 years without seeing each other, Fif and Joe have resolved their differences following the death of Violator Management’s Chris Lighty. The two reconciled during the 2012 BET Awards tribute segment for the late music executive.
Fat Joe isn’t new to coaching and basketball either. The MC “Lean Back” was ready to play alongside star basketball players including Carmelo Anthony and Yao Ming against a JAY-Z team, LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neil. The Harlem Rucker Park tournament was scheduled for the very hot summer of 2003 in New York. The match was canceled and never rescheduled, due to a major citywide blackout.
Since then, he’s been in various charity games over the years, ranging from Dwight Howard’s D12 Foundation All-Star Celebrity Weekend Game to Roc Nation’s Summer Classic Charity Basketball Tournament.
50 Cent’s Tycoon Houston Weekend is set to kick off August 25 in Houston, Texas with a comedy show and end August 28.
